This artwork by Sergei Borisov achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in February 2007. In the Modern and Contemporary Russian Art auction, the work Explanation, 1993 sold for GBP 6,600.00 (€ 9,784.26) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Sergei Borisov; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Group Of Four Black And White Photographs Including The Kiss; The Touch And The Misses Of Immature Thought sold at auction in March 2008 with the realized price of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,207.02).
