This artwork by Samuel Michael Byrne achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Melbourne in May 2004. In the AUSTRALIAN, INTERNATIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS auction, the work Thackaringa School 1884 sold for AUD 7,767.50 (€ 4,538.30) - well above the upper estimate of AUD 4,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Samuel Michael Byrne; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Broken Hill Miners Tar and Feather Strike Breakers 1892 Strike. sold at auction in September 2010 with the realized price of GBP 7,750.00 (€ 8,963.70).
