Despite a disappointment, a good price for Rufino Tamayo
This work of art by Rufino Tamayo could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in November 2008 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Latin American Art auction, the work America changed hands for USD 6,802,500.00 (€ 5,358,830.94) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 7,000,000.00 – 9,000,000.00. Despite this disappointing result, America is the most expensive artwork by Rufino Tamayo that we have observed at auction so far.
