In March 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PAINTINGS, INCLUDING SCOTTISH PICTURES, which included the work Workhorses at a water trough in a sunlit village; and Grey weather off the coast of Tiree by Robert Russell MacNee. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,172.50 (€ 5,119.15), 59% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Robert Russell MacNee; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A country lane in summer sold at auction in October 2003 with the realized price of GBP 6,931.00 (€ 10,123.36).
