Auction result well in line with expectations

The work Leaf, 1987 by Robert Mapplethorpe was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2005. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 42,000.00 (€ 35,014.59) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Mapplethorpe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Self-Portrait in October 2017 with an auction result of GBP 548,750.00 (€ 625,682.41).

Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

Die Arbeit Leaf, 1987 von Robert Mapplethorpe kam im Oktober 2005 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 40.000,00 – 60.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 42.000,00 (€ 35.014,59) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Robert Mapplethorpe erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Self-Portrait im Oktober 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 548.750,00 (€ 625.682,41).
