A top price for Pieter van der Werff - as previously expected

The work A posthumous portrait of Vincent Paets (1658-1702), bust-length, in a blue velvet cloak by Pieter van der Werff was sold in the Old Masters Day Sale auction at Christies in London in December 2018. The price achieved of GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,140.89) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, A posthumous portrait of Vincent Paets (1658-1702), bust-length, in a blue velvet cloak is the most expensive artwork by Pieter van der Werff that we have observed at auctions so far.
