In September 2001 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction THE DUTCH INTERIOR, which included the work A hail with horns and a tail by Pieter Holsteyn the Elder. The »bidding war« ended at EUR 2,937.50 34% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pieter Holsteyn the Elder achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Sheet Of Studies Of Butterflies, Moths And Beetles, Including A Blue Rhinoceros Beetle And A Grasshopper in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 63,650.00 (€ 80,868.04).

Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 2.937,50 und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Pieter Holsteyn the Elder erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Sheet Of Studies Of Butterflies, Moths And Beetles, Including A Blue Rhinoceros Beetle And A Grasshopper im Juli 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 63.650,00 (€ 80.868,04).
