The work A classical river landscape with figures on a path, a town beyond by Pierre Joseph Wallaert was sold in the Old Master Pictures auction at Christies in London in July 2003. The price achieved of GBP 4,112.50 (€ 5,375.31) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pierre Joseph Wallaert - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A shipwreck in stormy seas with survivors on a rocky outcrop, a lighthouse beyond, which sold at auction in May 2000 for USD 19,975.00 (€ 21,414.02).
