In July 2018 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Works on Paper, which included the work Portrait Of Henry Fiennes Clinton, 9Th Earl Of Lincoln, Later 2Nd Duke Of Newcastle-Under-Lyme (1720-1794); Together With His Wife Catherine, Countess Of Lincoln (1727-1760) by Pierre Joseph Lion. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 1,800.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,242.44). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pierre Joseph Lion - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Miss Lucy and Miss Frances Carpenter, which sold at auction in January 2004 for USD 7,767.50 (€ 6,237.95).
