Auction result well in line with expectations

The work An Italianate landscape with travellers halting at a fountain, a castle beyond by Pierre-Athanase Chauvin was sold in the OLD MASTER PICTURES auction at Christies in London in December 2002. The price achieved of GBP 22,705.00 (€ 34,853.31) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pierre-Athanase Chauvin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A View Of The Pines Of The Villa Borghese From The Back Of The Villa Medicis, which sold at auction in January 2008 for USD 145,000.00 (€ 97,702.31).
