Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Washerwomen in a landscape; and Travellers on a path by an estuary by Philippe Budelot was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2004, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 3,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 10,755.00 (€ 8,637.17). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Philippe Budelot - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Napoleon instructing the Imperial Guard; and Before an engagement, which sold at auction in January 2008 for GBP 15,500.00 (€ 20,778.42).
