Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Fontwell Park Steeplechase by Peter Howell was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in September 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 3,780.00 (€ 3,225.81). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Peter Howell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A set of four polo scenes at a polo match at Cowdray Park: Going for the Ball, Taking a Backhander, Where is it gone? and Half-Time, which sold at auction in December 2005 for USD 7,800.00 (€ 6,586.73).
