This artwork by Oene Romkes de Jongh achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in September 2000. In the PICTURES WATERCOLOURS DRAWINGS AND COPIES AFTER OLD MASTERS auction, the work Numerous townsfolk in a city in winter sold for NLG 19,893.40 (€ 9,168.93) - well above the upper estimate of NLG 8,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Oene Romkes de Jongh; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Dutch Figures On A Frozen Canal In A Dutch Town sold at auction in April 2008 with the realized price of EUR 10,450.00.
