In March 2007 Christies in London held the auction 19th Century European Art Including Russian Pictures, which included the work Faustulus happening upon Romulus and Remus suckling on a she-wolf by Nikolaos Gyzis. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 4,200.00 (€ 6,181.92), 40% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nikolaos Gyzis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bestrafung eines Hühnerdiebs in Smyrna/ Punition d'un voleur de poulet à Smyrna in May this year with an auction result of EUR 466,575.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um 40 % übertroffen
Im März 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion 19th Century European Art Including Russian Pictures durch, in der auch die Arbeit Faustulus happening upon Romulus and Remus suckling on a she-wolf von Nikolaos Gyzis zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 4.200,00 (€ 6.181,92) und damit 40% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Nikolaos Gyzis erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Bestrafung eines Hühnerdiebs in Smyrna/ Punition d'un voleur de poulet à Smyrna im Mai diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 466.575,00.
