Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Unknown by Munakata Shiko was sold in the Japanese and Korean Art auction at Bonhams in New York in September last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 3,187.50 (€ 3,258.20) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Munakata Shiko achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hakki-hi (White-skinned goddess) in November 2000 with an auction result of USD 70,500.00 (€ 81,090.41).
