The work Vessels before Santa Maria della Salute, Venice; and Vessels on the Lagoon, Venice by Jane Vivian was sold in the British and Continental Pictures and Works on Paper auction at Christies in London in January 2003. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 8,460.00 (€ 12,957.45), 69% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jane Vivian; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Barges and gondolas on the Grand Canal, Venice sold at auction in November 2003 with the realized price of GBP 17,625.00 (€ 25,300.95).
