Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The fleet an anchor by Miles Edmund Cotman was auctioned at Christies in New York in February 2005, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,640.00 (€ 1,988.85). Other works by Miles Edmund Cotman have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in December 2020 by the work Shipping off the coast at GBP 2,016.00 (€ 2,252.05).

Als die Arbeit The fleet an anchor von Miles Edmund Cotman im Februar 2005 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.640,00 (€ 1.988,85) den Besitzer. Andere Arbeiten von Miles Edmund Cotman wurden auch schon teurer gehandelt; den höchsten Preis, den wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachten konnten, erzielte im Dezember 2020 die Arbeit Shipping off the coast mit GBP 2.016,00 (€ 2.252,05).
