Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2008 Christies in London held the auction Exploration and Travel, which included the work An Elizabeth II silver cigarette box presented to Michael Ward in commemoration of the conquest of Mount Everest, 1953 by Michael Phelps Ward. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,125.00 (€ 1,422.45) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Michael Phelps Ward - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Rolex Oyster Perpetual wristwatch, presented to Michael Ward by the manufacturers, which sold at auction in September 2008 for GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,477.10).
