In the Old Master Pictures auction, the work A river landscape with gentlemen and peasants on a path by a castle; and A river landscape with peasants on a path by a cottage sold for GBP 23,900.00 (€ 36,118.16) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00. Admittedly, works by Mathys Schoevaerdts have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A coastal scene with drovers and their herds and travellers in horse-drawn carts on a path, a harbour with shipping beyond; and An estuary with peasants in boats and along the shore, a town and shipping beyond; a pair in January 2000 with an auction result of USD 299,500.00 (€ 306,959.11).
