Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Village Landscape With Numerous Figures At A Vegetable Market, A Stream Passing Through Beyond by Mathys Schoevaerdts was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale auction at Sothebys in London in December 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 26,099.93) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Mathys Schoevaerdts achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A coastal scene with drovers and their herds and travellers in horse-drawn carts on a path, a harbour with shipping beyond; and An estuary with peasants in boats and along the shore, a town and shipping beyond; a pair in January 2000 with an auction result of USD 299,500.00 (€ 306,959.11).
