drypoint, etching and aquatint in colors, on laid paper watermark Vanderley, circa 1893, a very fine impression of this rare print, the colors fresh, signed in pencil, the only recorded proof in the tenth state (of eleven), with the artist's blue monogram ink stamp (Lugt 604), with margins, in good condition, framed

Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Gathering Fruit by Mary Cassatt was auctioned at Christies in New York in October last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 70,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 214,200.00 (€ 215,623.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Mary Cassatt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Young Lady In A Loge Gazing To Right in October last year with an auction result of USD 7,489,000.00 (€ 7,538,755.79).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Gathering Fruit von Mary Cassatt im Oktober letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 70.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 214.200,00 (€ 215.623,11) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Mary Cassatt erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Young Lady In A Loge Gazing To Right im Oktober letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 7.489.000,00 (€ 7.538.755,79).
