Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Group portrait possibly of the artist and her family in a landscape by Maria Spilsbury was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,156.04). Admittedly, works by Maria Spilsbury have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Henry Grattan Mp, In A Library in November 2018 with an auction result of GBP 23,750.00 (€ 26,789.28).
