In January 2008 Christies in London held the auction Nineteenth Century European Art, which included the work View of Valetta from Senglea; and the Great harbour, Valetta by Luigi Galea. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,500.00 (€ 3,351.36), 67% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Luigi Galea - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Mediterranean fishing craft off the Maltese coast, which sold at auction in May 2000 for GBP 7,285.00 (€ 11,689.74).

Im Januar 2008 führte Christies in London die Auktion Nineteenth Century European Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit View of Valetta from Senglea; and the Great harbour, Valetta von Luigi Galea zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.500,00 (€ 3.351,36) und damit 67% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Luigi Galea mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Mediterranean fishing craft off the Maltese coast beobachtet, die im Mai 2000 für GBP 7.285,00 (€ 11.689,74) versteigert wurde.
