Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work An armoured cruiser outward-bound from Valetta by Luigi Galea was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,187.50 (€ 1,662.81). Admittedly, works by Luigi Galea have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Mediterranean fishing craft off the Maltese coast in May 2000 with an auction result of GBP 7,285.00 (€ 11,689.74).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit An armoured cruiser outward-bound from Valetta von Luigi Galea im November 2007 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 1.200,00 – 1.800,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.187,50 (€ 1.662,81) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Luigi Galea auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Mediterranean fishing craft off the Maltese coast im Mai 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.285,00 (€ 11.689,74).
