In January 2013 Christies in London held the auction 19th Century European Art Including Orientalist Art, which included the work Skaters On A Dutch Waterway By A Riverside Town by Louis Smets. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,483.95), 63% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Louis Smets - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Skaters on a frozen river, which sold at auction in October 2000 for GBP 12,925.00 (€ 22,092.52).

Im Januar 2013 führte Christies in London die Auktion 19th Century European Art Including Orientalist Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Skaters On A Dutch Waterway By A Riverside Town von Louis Smets zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 8.125,00 (€ 9.483,95) und damit 63% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Louis Smets mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Skaters on a frozen river beobachtet, die im Oktober 2000 für GBP 12.925,00 (€ 22.092,52) versteigert wurde.
