Artwork auctioned at seven times the upper estimate price
When the work Scènes champêtres by Louis-Nicolas van Blarenberghe was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 5,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than seven times as high at GBP 35,280.00 (€ 39,410.90). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Louis-Nicolas van Blarenberghe - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Louis XV with the Royal Hounds in front of the Pavillion of Croix-Fontaine belonging to the Fermier Générale Bouret, which sold at auction in October 2021 for USD 125,000.00 (€ 108,206.37).
