Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Jacob recognising the blood-stained coat of Joseph by Leonaert Bramer was auctioned at Sothebys in London in March 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,400.00 – 3,400.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,890.00 (€ 2,220.26). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Leonaert Bramer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Circumcision in December 2004 with an auction result of GBP 41,825.00 (€ 59,193.90).
