Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work Saint Ferdinand of Castile, his crown and sceptre resting on a draped table, in a feigned border by Karel Škréta was auctioned at Christies in London in February 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,645.00 (€ 2,684.48). Admittedly, works by Karel Škréta have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Maria Magdalena in der Wüste mit den die Leidenswerkzeuge Christi tragenden Engeln in November last year with an auction result of EUR 10,795.00.
