Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of Philip Iii, King Of Spain (1578-1621) by Juan Pantoja de la Cruz was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 70,000.00 – 90,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 58,000.00 (€ 39,080.92). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Juan Pantoja de la Cruz - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of A Nobleman, Probably Juan Francisco Cristobal Fernández De Híjar (C. 1550-1614), 4Th Duke Of Híjar, Duke Of Aliaga And Lécera, Count Of Belchite, Full-Length, In Armour And Embroidered Trunk Hose, Holding A Baton Of Command In His Right Hand,, which sold at auction in December 2015 for GBP 86,500.00
