Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work A Pair of Portraits of Mr. Philo Franklin Wilcox and Mrs. Orpha J. Wilcox by Joseph Whiting Stock for USD 8,750.00 (€ 7,210.55). This price was achieved in the auction In Praise of America: Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Silver, Prints and Broadsides at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 10,000.00 – 20,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Whiting Stock achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Martha Otis Bullock (Girl in a Blue Dress) in January 2008 with an auction result of USD 145,000.00 (€ 97,702.31).
