The work The collector by Joseph Noël Sylvestre was sold in the British and Continental Pictures auction at Christies in London in November 2002. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,115.00 (€ 3,311.98) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The collector is the most expensive artwork by Joseph Noël Sylvestre that we have observed at auctions so far.
