Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2006 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours, which included the work Tending To A Cottage Garden (Illustrated); And Villagers Making Their Way To Market by Joseph Hughes Clayton. The price achieved of GBP 456.00 (€ 667.53) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400.00 – 600.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joseph Hughes Clayton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Fishing boats off the coast; and Beached fishing vessels, which sold at auction in February 2000 for GBP 920.00 (€ 1,505.51).
