Despite a disappointment, a good price for Josef Bartholomeus Vieillevoye
When the work Brutus at his Tribunal by Josef Bartholomeus Vieillevoye was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 7,767.50 (€ 12,567.61). Despite this disappointing result, Brutus at his Tribunal is the most expensive artwork by Josef Bartholomeus Vieillevoye that we have observed at auction so far.
