Auction result well in line with expectations

In December 2007 Christies in London held the auction British, Continental & Russian Pictures, which included the work Sawing Timber by John Joseph Hughes. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 625.00 (€ 849.27) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Joseph Hughes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Cows watering near an angler in a river, a church beyond, which sold at auction in January 2002 for GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,930.53).

Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

Im Dezember 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion British, Continental & Russian Pictures durch, in der auch die Arbeit Sawing Timber von John Joseph Hughes zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 600,00 – 800,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 625,00 (€ 849,27) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von John Joseph Hughes mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Cows watering near an angler in a river, a church beyond beobachtet, die im Januar 2002 für GBP 1.175,00 (€ 1.930,53) versteigert wurde.
