Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Waterloo Bridge, With Blackfriars And St. Paul'S Cathedral Beyond, Dusk by John Donaldson was auctioned at Christies in London in August 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 500.00 – 700.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 358.50 (€ 530.58). Admittedly, works by John Donaldson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Pair Of Miniatures: A Gentleman, In Red Coat With Black Collar And White Frilled Cravat; Together With A Young Lady In White Dress And Fichu, Blue Ribbon Around Her Arm, Powdered Curling Hair in November 2013 with an auction result of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 5,264.73).
