Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Chester Coach Outside The George Inn by John Charles Maggs was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,868.00 (€ 2,309.74). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Charles Maggs - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Bristol to London mail coach with a hunt beyond, which sold at auction in June 2002 for GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,088.88).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The Chester Coach Outside The George Inn von John Charles Maggs im September 2004 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.868,00 (€ 2.309,74) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von John Charles Maggs mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Bristol to London mail coach with a hunt beyond beobachtet, die im Juni 2002 für GBP 3.290,00 (€ 5.088,88) versteigert wurde.
