Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work King Gustavus Adolfus of Sweden at the Battle of Lutzen by Johann Wilhelm Baur was worth EUR 28,800.00 to a buyer in April 2007. This price was achieved in the auction European Noble and Private Collections at Christies in Amsterdam and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of EUR 6,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Johann Wilhelm Baur - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work View Of The Villa D'Este And Gardens, Tivoli, which sold at auction in January 2009 for USD 98,500.00 (€ 76,929.08).
