In December 2020 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper, including Portrait Miniatures from the Pohl-Ströher Collection, which included the work Portrait of King Gustav IV of Sweden (1778-1837), circa 1796 by Johan Erik Bolinder. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,638.00 (€ 1,829.79), 37% above the upper estimate. With this result, Portrait of King Gustav IV of Sweden (1778-1837), circa 1796 is even the most expensive work of art by Johan Erik Bolinder that we have observed at auctions so far.
