Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction European Paintings including German, Austrian & Central European Paintings and The Orientalist Sale, which included the work Belgian Sisters by Jean François Portaels. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 13,515.46) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Jean François Portaels have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Pearl Necklace in June 2006 with an auction result of GBP 84,000.00 (€ 121,546.60).
