Commentaire : En octobre 1767, juste avant son départ à Rome, un tableau de Jean Bardin représentant 'Saint Charles-Borromée' est exposé dans la galerie d'Apollon au Louvre avec d'autres ouvrages de l'Ecole des élèves protégés. Notre dessin, daté de 1776, soit trois ans après son retour de Rome, témoigne de la volonté de l'artiste de réaliser un grand retable de même sujet.
Un autre dessin lui-aussi préparatoire à cette composition définitive (localisation actuelle inconnue) est actuellement conservé au musée des Beaux-Arts d'Orléans.

In March 2011 Artcurial in Paris held the auction Old Master and 19th Century Drawings, which included the work Saint Charles Borromée Donnant L'Aumône Aux Pestiférés by Jean Bardin. The »bidding war« ended at EUR 1,658.00 38% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Jean Bardin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Alexandre Le Grand Et Le Médecin Philippe D'Arcanie Et La Maladie D'Antiochus in March 2009 with an auction result of EUR 7,906.00.

Im März 2011 führte Artcurial in Paris die Auktion Old Master and 19th Century Drawings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Saint Charles Borromée Donnant L'Aumône Aux Pestiférés von Jean Bardin zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 1.658,00 und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Jean Bardin auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Alexandre Le Grand Et Le Médecin Philippe D'Arcanie Et La Maladie D'Antiochus im März 2009 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 7.906,00.
