In November 2002 Christies in London held the auction 19th Century European Art Including Orientalist Pictures, which included the work Two gentlemen reading a letter by Jean-Baptiste Madou. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,151.97). Admittedly, works by Jean-Baptiste Madou have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The morning news; and A suitable proposal in April 2015 with an auction result of GBP 18,750.00 (€ 25,748.07).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im November 2002 führte Christies in London die Auktion 19th Century European Art Including Orientalist Pictures durch, in der auch die Arbeit Two gentlemen reading a letter von Jean-Baptiste Madou zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 3.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 3.290,00 (€ 5.151,97) einen neuen Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Jean-Baptiste Madou auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The morning news; and A suitable proposal im April 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 18.750,00 (€ 25.748,07).
