In November 2020 Sothebys in New York held the auction True Connoisseurship: The Collection of Ezra & Cecile Zilkha, which included the work Portrait Of A Woman On A Divan by Jean-Baptiste Le Prince. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 600,000.00 – 800,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 625,000.00 (€ 523,100.10) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait Of A Woman On A Divan is the most expensive artwork by Jean-Baptiste Le Prince that we have observed at auctions so far.
