Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Jean-Baptiste de Champaigne could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January 2011 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master Drawings auction, the work Self-Portrait At The Age Of Seventeen, Head And Shoulders Turned To The Left changed hands for USD 12,500.00 (€ 9,114.11) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Baptiste de Champaigne achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Christ mort et études subsidiaires des mains et de la tête (recto); Tête de Nicodème et visage de la Vierge (verso) in March 2015 with an auction result of EUR 91,500.00.
