Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Ugolin et ses Fils, version finale (Ugolino and his Sons, final version) by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux was auctioned at Sothebys in Paris in May last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at - in retrospect quite modest - EUR 30,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at EUR 138,600.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Ugolin, which sold at auction in March 2019 for EUR 455,400.00.

Als die Arbeit Ugolin et ses Fils, version finale (Ugolino and his Sons, final version) von Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in Paris versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – EUR 30.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit EUR 138.600,00 mehr als viermal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Ugolin beobachtet, die im März 2019 für EUR 455.400,00 versteigert wurde.
