Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Butterflies, Moths, A Dragonfly And Other Insects, With A Spring Of Apple Blossom by Jan van Kessel I was sold in the Old Masters Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in London in July 2017. The price achieved of GBP 272,750.00 (€ 304,347.12) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan van Kessel I - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Garden And House Spiders With Grass Snakes And Caterpillars Contorted And Entwined To Spell The Artist'S Name; A Sprig Of Redcurrants With An Elephant Hawk Moth, A Ladybird, A Millipede And Other Insects, which sold at auction in December 2014 for GBP 542,500.00 (€ 698,377.41).
