This work of art by Jan Swart van Gronigen could be acquired at Christies in New York in January 2004 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Important Old Master Paintings auction, the work The Baptism of Christ changed hands for USD 186,700.00 (€ 149,935.75) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00. Other works by Jan Swart van Gronigen have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in October 2001 by the work The Temptation, with the Rebuke and the Expulsion from the Garden of Eden beyond at USD 193,000.00 (€ 214,611.36).
