In March 2000 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work Herring Boats off Flamborough Head by James Meadows, Snr.. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,990.00 (€ 4,972.51), 50% above the upper estimate. With this result, Herring Boats off Flamborough Head is even the most expensive work of art by James Meadows, Snr. that we have observed at auctions so far.
