Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a lady, small full-length, in a white dress with a blue sash, holding a straw hat, standing by a gate, a landscape beyond by James Gooch was sold in the Christie's Interiors Including Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours From The Collection of The Late John Appleby auction at Christies in London in March 2011. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,125.00 (€ 1,272.93) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Gooch - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A road through the woods, which sold at auction in March 2008 for GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,454.68).
