This artwork by Jacob Adriaensz. Bellevois achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2005. In the Important Old Master PaintingsPart II auction, the work Two smalschips in stormy waters with a Dutch Man of War off the coast of a town sold for USD 34,800.00 (€ 26,668.71) - well above the upper estimate of USD 15,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jacob Adriaensz. Bellevois; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Smallships, a threemaster and a pink on a river by a jetty in a stiff breeze, a town in the distance sold at auction in May 2001 with the realized price of NLG 76,375.00 (€ 36,791.88).
