Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Two Portrait busts, possibly depicting Annie, 1st Viscountess Cowdray (d.1932) and her sister, Gertrude, later Mrs. Thomas Kinnell by Ivan Mestrovic was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,500.00 (€ 1,742.58). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ivan Mestrovic achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Study Of Woman Bending in May 2020 with an auction result of GBP 27,500.00 (€ 30,528.02).
